Super-Delegates? Are they unamerican?

The Dem nomination process should come down to the super delegates, which basically means that a few hundred people decide the candidate, thus rendering the millions of individual votes meaningless. Doesn't that fly in the face of a government elected by the people? Especially after what that party claimed happened in Florida 2000. What do you think of privileged individuals having more voting power that thousands, or even millions of non-privileged, regular voters?
